Strong and Getting Stronger: The Potter’s House Names Permanent Superintendent, Expands Leadership Team

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Potter’s House today announced the permanent appointment of
Christine Metzger as Superintendent, along with an expanded leadership team.

Serving more than 600 students from diverse cultural backgrounds and a wide range of income levels, The Potter’s House is committed to providing accessible Christ-centered education.

Metzger, who has served as Interim Superintendent since 2025, brings deep knowledge of the school community, a steady leadership presence, and a demonstrated commitment to The Potter’s House mission of educating students of all ethnic heritages and income levels. Her permanent appointment reflects the Board’s confidence in her leadership during a season of transition and its vision for the future.

“This is a milestone moment for The Potter’s House,” said Rich Antonini II, board chair. “For 44 years, God has been faithful, and we are grateful for John Booy’s visionary leadership in growing TPH from a basement ministry into a thriving school. This announcement reflects our commitment to long-term stability and our confidence in Christine’s leadership to carry that legacy forward.”

John Booy, Founder and former Superintendent, expressed confidence in the school’s future and leadership.

“From the beginning, The Potter’s House has existed because of God’s faithfulness and a calling to serve students who might not otherwise have access to Christ-centered education,” said Booy. “It has been a joy to see the school grow into the thriving community it is today, and I am deeply confident Christine Metzger, the leadership team, and our board will carry The Potter’s House mission forward.”

Expanded Leadership Team

Alongside Metzger’s appointment, The Potter’s House has named the following leadership roles:

  • Mark Ponstine – Director of Operations
  • Alf Clark – High School Principal
  • Jake Hoogstrate – Elementary/Middle School Principal
  • Janorise Robinson – Director of Teaching & Learning
  • Randy Helm – Director of Finance
  • Tim Swiney – Director of Advancement

“We are strong and getting stronger,” said Metzger. “Our mission remains unwavering: to provide academic excellence, foster spiritual growth, and equip students to serve God and society to their fullest potential. I am honored to build on the foundation that has been laid over the past four decades.”

Metzger previously served as Head of School at Mustard Seed School in Hoboken, New Jersey, and as both Interim Superintendent and Superintendent at Lexington Christian Academy in Massachusetts. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Calvin University and a master’s degree in Education from Covenant College. She also served nine years as a Board Trustee with Calvin University.
